Alabama signs JUCO point guard
Alabama signed junior college point guard Anthony Brock on Thursday, The Tuscaloosa News reported on its Web site Thursday.
Brock, a 5-foot-9 native of Little Rock, Ark., led Itawamba (Miss.) Community College to a 57-10 record and two appearances in the NJCAA tournament during his career. As a sophomore in 2007-08, he averaged 18.5 points, 4.7 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 3.4 steals and was a second-team NJCAA All-American.
Brock fills an immediate need for the Crimson Tide after last year's starting point guard, Rico Pickett, left the team with intentions to transfer. Former starter Ronald Steele, who missed last season due to injury, has entered his name in the NBA draft, though he may pull out and return to school.
Alabama does return two players with point guard experience for next season, rising senior Brandon Hollinger and junior Mikhail Torrance.
Alabama's 2008 recruiting class was ranked No. 10 in the country by Rivals.com after the early signing period, in which the Crimson Tide signed three Top 50 players: forward JaMychal Green of Montgomery, guard Andrew Steele of Birmingham and forward Tony Mitchell of Swainsboro, Ga. Green was Mr. Basketball and a McDonald's All-American.
