University of Alabama point guard Ronald Steele will remain in the NBA draft for the time being, despite news reports on Sunday that the Crimson Tide point guard had withdrawn from the draft.
ESPN quoted Crimson Tide head coach Mark Gottfried on Sunday morning as saying that Steele had withdrawn from the draft.
However, Steele’s father, Ronald Steele, Sr., said that his son would continue to explore options before coming to a final decision.
The elder Steele said that his son had informed Gottfried that he would return, but “changed his mind”
about making an announcement at this time after a family discussion.
Steele’s mother, Linda Steele, told The Huntsville Times that a final decision from the Steele family would come “in a day or two.”
Steele competed in the NBA pre-draft camp in Orlando earlier this week. He did not play for UA last season as he rehabilitated from surgery on both knees.
