Tide puts on show at home
At last, a breather.
After its four wins came by a total of 19 points, Alabama smacked Nicholls State 91-53 on Saturday before an announced crowd of 8,813 at Coleman Coliseum.
"This is the best game we've played together as a team," Brandon Hollinger said.
The Crimson Tide hit their first six shots and breezed to such an easy win, leading scorer and rebounder Richard Hendrix played just 17 minutes and had five points and six rebounds.
In his place, five teammates scored in double figures - led by Mykal Riley's 22 points and Alonzo Gee's 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Riley had his best shooting game of the season, nailing 6-of-8 3-pointers and 8-of-12 from the field.
"I was just on," said Riley, who has 15 3-pointers in the last three games. "I was feeling it. I knocked down a couple of shots and it feels good to be back shooting it well again."
Hollinger came off the bench for 14 points and nine rebounds while Rico Pickett had 12 points and six assists and Demetrius Jemison had 10 points.
The Tide shot 57.6 percent from the field and outrebounded the Colonels 46-22.
It leaves a happy memory for the Tide to dwell upon as the players take final exams this week. Alabama doesn't play again until Dec. 17 against Wofford.
The Tide will also have three players participate in graduation ceremonies next week - Riley, Ronald Steele and walk-on John Dill.
"I like a lot of things about how we played today," coach Mark Gottfried said. "I like how we moved the ball and shot the ball. The shot selection really good. We had 25 assists on 34 baskets.
"The ball movement offensively was very good. When you when you step up and make shots, you feel better about how you play. def we were pretty good team. Going into final exams this was a good game for us."
