Alabama's Steele to Undergo Knee Surgeries

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Doctor James Andrews said Alabama point guard Ronald Steele will undergo "diagnostic arthroscopic surgery" on both knees but should be at full-speed by next season.

The preseason All-American missed six games last season and was limited most of the season by bone bruises in first his right and later his left knee. Andrews, a consultant to the Alabama sports medicine staff, said Ronald Steele will have the surgeries next Tuesday.

Ronald Steele's scoring average dipped from 14.3 points as a sophomore to 8.6 points last season.

He played just 12 minutes in a Southeastern Conference tournament loss to Kentucky and sat out the Crimson Tide's National Invitation Tournament game, a loss at Massachusetts.

Andrews and Doctor Lyle Cain Jr. will try to "evaluate ongoing symptoms" at Saint Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Andrews said in a release. He said Ronald Steele will have to perform physical therapy but expects him to be healed for next season.
