Tide releases schedule
With a non-conference schedule that includes Georgetown, Texas A&M and Clemson, basketball coach Mark Gottfried said Alabama will face a rugged schedule this season.
The Crimson Tide released the 2007-08 schedule Monday, which also includes a home date against two-time defending national champ Florida.
"I think it's an unbelievably difficult schedule, which is good," Gottfried said. "We want that."
The SEC schedule is also daunting, with six of the Tide's last nine games on the road. Among those road trips are visits to Kentucky, Auburn and Ole Miss. Of course, the schedule also features four straight SEC home games - including SEC West rivals Mississippi State and Auburn.
"I like our schedule," Gottfried said. "I think it stays consistent with the fact that we have played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation every year."
Point guard Ronald Steele, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last week to repair a cartilage fragment, said he is doing well. He had double knee surgery in April to repair cartilage.
"Honestly, I'm feeling better than I have in a long time," Ronald Steele said. "The last surgery went well; it corrected whatever needed to get corrected."
Gottfried said Ronald Steele would be limited for at least a month.
